The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) San Antonio District is planning improvements to Loop 1604 (south) extending from IH 10 (Eastern limit) to US 90 (Western limit). The overall study limits are approximately 50 miles long and located within Bexar County. The 50-mile corridor is divided into Segments 1 through 5. The current project includes only Segment 3. It extends from IH 10 East to FM 1346 totaling approximately 4.3 miles in length.
This project included general soil and rock conditions along the proposed LP 1604. Analysis and recommendations include foundation recommendations, bridge approach embankments, slope stability analysis and embankment settlement analysis for the bridge crossing. The other component of the project included pavement design for a new roadway for LP 1604 beginning at I-10 and extending south to FM 1346. Flexible pavement recommendations were provided for various alternate base types and thicknesses. Sulfates were a major concern along the project alignment.
